Sushi Gen offers fresh, delicious sushi with great service. However, I’d suggest a bit more attention to hygiene. It gets very crowded, so I recommend arriving around 10:30am to secure a table. The quality is worth it, making it a must-visit spot in Little Tokyo!

Truly perfect. Felt like I was back in Japan again. Sushi was a true 10/10, no question. The quality, the selection, the freshness, etc were all perfect. The service was just as good. I was served and attended to like I was the only person in the restaurant despite there not being a single empty seat. If you’re looking for your go-to sushi spot that’s authentic and not some tuned up LA nonsense, this is it.

I have been coming to this gem for a long time and finally getting the chance to write a review. I would consider this one of the top five sushi spots in the U.S. hands down, no frills sushi that is out of this world. Fresh - the toro is some of the best I’ve ever had. The sashimi lunch is a bargain, but sit at the sushi bar and just keep ordering at any time of the day. It is the best of the best. I don’t miss it when I come to LA.

All of the people that hate waiting in line should come on a weekday night, because our party of 2 got seated immediately upon arrival. It’s definitely not cheap (maybe a reasonable-ish price for sushi) but the quality is pretty good. The fresh water eel (unagidon) was GAS!! The sauce is pretty standard — sweet and savory and sticky — and it was everything we expected and more when paired with the tender eel and chewy rice. It also serves as great leftovers. Salmon: buttery and the quality was phenomenal Toro: tasted kind of like beef, fatty but also had texture to it Tuna: this was probably the most lackluster fish I had of the night; quality was just ok and didn’t really have any memorable texture or taste Sea bream: with the lemon it was so refreshing and had a similar butteriness as the salmon Scallop: it was sooo sweet and the lemon brought out those flavors even more Yellowtail scallion: the refreshing kick of the scallion paired really well with the fish Overall salmon, scallop, and yellowtail scallion were my favorites. I’d probably get the combination if I wasn’t looking for anything in particular since it’s more bang for buck.
