A local staple that we haven’t ate at in years but have meant to, finally went again & it didn’t disappoint! Everything is good, I’m particularly intrigued by the breakfast options now Saturday & Sunday! Desserts were good as well, I had the strawberry cheesecake and it was delicious! Meatloaf was good, sweet potatoes were great! They have a self serve water station I didn’t realize was there before I bought a bottle of water. Deviled eggs were 9/10, good but not the best I’ve ever had. Cabbage was good and a huge portion, definitely share that! We are about half of everything and took the rest home. Plenty of seating so that was good and they have a parking lot, which I wasn’t sure about being so close to downtown and all. Can’t wait to go back and try different things!

If you’re looking for an authentic deli experience with top-quality food, look no further than Shapiro’s Delicatessen! I stopped in for a classic corned beef sandwich, and it was absolutely outstanding. The corned beef was perfectly seasoned, tender, and piled high on fresh, flavorful rye bread. Each bite had just the right balance of savory richness and melt-in-your-mouth texture. The sandwich was served warm, with just enough juiciness to make it incredibly satisfying without being overly greasy. Beyond the food, the service was friendly and efficient. The staff made sure everything was just right and kept the atmosphere welcoming. The deli itself has a nostalgic charm that adds to the experience—you can tell they’ve been serving quality meals for years. If you appreciate a great corned beef sandwich (or any deli classic), Shapiro’s is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be coming back!

I only rated it as 5* because there is no higher number available. The 5* for atmosphere is based on the genre. I didn't think there would be a Jewish deli this good in the Midwest, but I was wrong. The corned beef, pastrami, matzoh balls, chopped liver and cheesecake were really excellent and enough for two meals... No scrimping on portions. No fatty meat. Thick hand sliced homemade rye bread was perfect. A nice full menu. It is cafeteria style to get your food but the line moves quickly and the sandwiches are made to order while you watch. And plenty of free parking despite the fact it's downtown in a large city. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Indy!

If you're traveling through Indy and looking for an O.G. family-run place to eat that's close to downtown and the Colts Stadium then Shapiro's is the place. It brings back great memories of me eating with my Grandparents in cafeterias with them back in the day also. The food and desserts were on point, so make sure and check out this truly landmark when your in Indy 🙂
