My wife and I have found that hitting up the Gandy Dancer bar area just before the rush hits is as good as it gets! We head to the bar area and have been treated with nothing but the best service. Never a bad meal and they know how to serve up a cocktail!! John and Emerald are some of the best bar tenders around who will make EXACTLY what you want! Love this place!

A classic Ann Arbor gem that blends timeless elegance with a touch of local charm. Set in a beautifully restored 1886 Michigan Central Railroad depot, the Gandy Dancer offers more than just great food—it’s a full sensory experience. The atmosphere is warm and refined, with white tablecloths, soft lighting, and the occasional rumble of a passing train right outside the window. When the train passes by, the server rings the bell, the whole dining room pause in delight and applause—it’s a uniquely Ann Arbor moment. We came with friends and ordered a variety of dishes, each thoughtfully prepared and beautifully plated. The oysters on ice were fresh and briny, the grilled lobster tail was tender and buttery, and the scallop risotto was rich and creamy, with peas adding just the right pop of sweetness. The baked ricotta cheese was comfortingly warm, paired perfectly with crisp crostini and sweet jam. I finished the night with a classic cheesecake topped with a deep berry compote—simple, satisfying, and just the right note to end the evening. Our server was Paul from Florida. Service was attentive but never rushed, and the entire meal felt like a special occasion without being pretentious. If you’re visiting Ann Arbor—or live here and haven’t been in a while—this is the kind of place that reminds you why dining out can be so memorable. And yes, the train bell really does make you smile.

Always enjoy the dining experience at this well established restaurant…from the fresh baked rolls to the yummy dessert everything was absolutely delicious! The server was attentive and professional. Look forward to returning soon.

If there were half star, I’d give it a 4.5. It doesn’t reach the out of body dining experience but it is a Great date night or family dinner if you’re ready to spend a few extra bucks. Ambiance is something of its own, being next to the tracks is super cool. We come here for dinner each time we are in Ann Arbor.

This is my honest to god take: The food, specifically prime rib and filet mignon were good, not anything special. For the price, I’d expect something more “spiced” up to differentiate from just any other place that serves these dishes. The employees we encountered were extremely friendly, however, they were not as attentive or aware as they might be on a non-graduation weekend time. I acknowledge there’s a LOT going on at this time, but my experience consisted of two different waitstaff. It took about 50 minutes for us to get just one basket of bread with butter. When we left, I realized that the tables next to us each got 2 bread baskets, while my party of 10 only got 1 for the entire 2 hours. Again, the food was good but nothing special. I can’t say it’s always like this, but this was my experience.
