CatalogAbout us

Specialties: Cacao Tree's menu is composed of freshly prepared, mostly organic, vegan and raw (un-cooked) foods. Everything is made daily from scratch using only real whole food ingredients. No gluten, soy or cane sugar is used in any preparations, nothing is refined. An emphasis on vegan desserts & handmade raw chocolates, as well as featuring a selection of "superfood" green smoothies & green juices, daily soups, specials and a selection of prepackaged deli foods. Acquiring local and regionally sourced produce and products are key aspects of the daily operations of the cafe. Building relationships with and supporting the community is an essential aspect of the principles which founded the business in 2010. Seating is limited, offering a bar to accommodate guests as well as a few tables. Carryout service is convenient and efficient and may be pre-ordered anytime. Parking is available in the parking garage located directly behind the cafe. P.S. We do not own a can opener. :) :) : Established in 2010. Cacao Tree was opened by owner Amber Poupore following a decade tenure at the Inn Season Cafe just down the street. Given the close proximity, she wanted to create offerings that would complement both businesses rather than compete. Inn Season has always wanted to offer raw food, the space is just not available for even more labor intensive preparations. The juice bar has been there for over a decade, Amber was able to have the opportunity to purchase the business and create a new plant based, organic establishment in metro Detroit. Amber has had extensive training in vegan and raw foods preparation, including classes in New York City, Chicago, Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center, Living Light Culinary Course, Regeneration Raw, and many opportunities to see and learn from David Wolfe. Given all her background and experience, Amber attributes all of the inventive and amazing cuisine to chefs Zach Lang, Hitoko Sakai and Chamile Ashton. Cacao Tree would not be here without the staff.

Had a great vegan "bacon" avocado, lettuce, tomato sandwich with killer cole slaw. The white bean vegetable soup was just the right accompaniment. Definitely a return visit is justified.

Cacao Tree Café is a little slice of vegan heaven in the Detroit area. We tried the ABLT, which comes with an amazingly tangy coleslaw, as well as the creamy cauliflower and potato soup of the day (OMG so good!). Both are specials so I have to go back when I am in town again and try some of the regular menu items or special dinners that happen, I believe, once a month if I hit the right timing. Owner Amber is such a lovely person and has created a lovely space to eat and chill, everything I look for in a vegan restaurant and a great break from all the veggie burgers and chik'n everyone else seems to make in D-Town! Kudos!!

Definitely hippie central, but wow, the salads are stupendously good! Expect to spend about $16 to $20 for a meal, which makes sense for the high quality of the food. That said, it’s pricier than what most folks are probably used to. Heads up—this is not the place for a quiet meeting or a laptop session. Blenders are constantly running just a few feet away from you, so it’s not ideal for work or a chill coffee hangout. Overall, high-quality food that’s worth the price, but maybe save it for when you’re in the mood for some loud, healthy vibes!

This is what good, healthy vibrant food tastes like—Thank goodness for Cacao Tree cafe!! I’ve been a long time customer and I am never disappointed. The food and smoothies are excellent—plant-based, vegetarian and primarily free of gluten, dairy, eggs and soy . It’s flavorful and delicious. The interior is fairly small with a strong hippie vibe. Customer service is excellent and friendly. It’s not inexpensive, but I think it’s fairly priced given the quality of the ingredients. It’s definitely one of my favorite spots when I’m in Royal Oak
