Planta Cocina in Marina del Rey is a plant-based revelation that proves vegan dining can be as indulgent as it is innovative. The menu is a veritable playground of flavor, offering a robust lineup of dishes that cater to both the curious omnivore and the committed herbivore. The sushi here—crafted with clever substitutes like ahi watermelon and carrot salmon—is a standout, delivering a silky, oceanic bite that rivals its fishy counterparts. But it’s the Bang Bang Broccoli that steals the show: crisp-tender florets cloaked in a sweet-spicy glaze, a dish so addictive it’s practically earned its own fanbase (and yes, the merch to match). A newer obsession of mine is the Japanese “steak”—a pulled shiitake masterpiece that’s smoky, succulent, and layered with umami depth, paired with rice noodles and a vibrant tangle of pickled veg. It’s a contemporary riff on tradition that feels both bold and comforting, a testament to Planta’s knack for reimagining classics. The servers elevate the experience further—attentive yet unpretentious, they navigate the bustling room with a warmth that feels genuine, not rehearsed. If you’re lucky enough to snag a seat outdoors, the view of the marina unfurls like a serene postcard: sailboats bobbing gently against a shimmering horizon, the kind of tranquil backdrop that turns a meal into a moment. It’s a chic, breezy escape from the grind, where the food sings with flavor and the setting soothes the soul. Planta Cocina isn’t just a meal—it’s a vibe, a deliciously modern take on plant-powered dining that lingers long after the last bite.

Love this spot. Nice location, great ambiance, excellent servers and pretty good simple food. I wish I had better photos! I ordered a salad, and some veg sushi. I remember ordering different things on another visit - everything was great. Also went to another planta- in Miami - which was also great. If you like plant based food, with slightly more Asian undertones, this is a must-visit spot.

Overall, I wanted to like it, but I wasn’t impressed. Had nigiri set, which really felt like rice with veggies. The famous truffle udon was good but also was not mind blown. Thousand layer Potato ? Was just ok. May be I had the wrong menus? Open to coming back. I guess it’s decent price for great atmosphere :)

We went for an afternoon meal. The location is top notch with a grand entrance and kick arse view of the Marina. The heater was not working that day so it got cold after a while outdoors Monday they have the $9 maki and $29 ayce maki. The torched and pressed was pretty good, it can stand on its own without pretending to be meat ‘sushi’. It is aburi style (torched) with avocado topping and a tinge of truffle on top. The dragon roll was ok, but taste more like the 7-11 California roll you might get. It was not as impressive. The gyoza was quite good, but you need to coat it with enough of the dressing and sauce (chomuchurri) it came with to enjoy it as the gyoza itself might taste s little bland. The ‘chk’ fried mushroom’ one was very very good! I enjoyed it the most. It can stand on it’s own as a dish without pretending to be chicken as it tasted like tempura dish or something. The spring rolls are great. It tasted familiar. Like ones you’ll get in a Vietnamese shop. The croqueta was the one I did not enjoy as much as it was too mushy. I was not a fan of the texture. The happy hour drinks selection were quite good as well. There was a ample parking outside, though the 2 hour limit feels a bit restrictive. — I went back today. I felt the sushi rice were a bit old rice and had a harder texture. On the cockatail front: The Rosarita I liked that. The Lyschee Paloma tasted good too.

I used to love going to Planta when I lived in Canada, so I was genuinely happy to discover they have locations in California too. The menu offers a fantastic selection of fresh, flavorful vegan dishes that make plant-based eating exciting, not restrictive. It’s fast, creative, and satisfying definitely not your average vegan fare. The bar is impressively stocked, offering great cocktail options that complement the food well. However, the service left a bit to be desired. We had to wait quite a while for our drinks, and our server barely checked in throughout the meal, which took away from the overall experience. Still, if you're looking for high-quality vegan food with bold flavors and great variety, Planta is absolutely worth visiting. Just cross your fingers for better service.😕🥴
