Specialties: Named New York's 'Best Food Hall' by Eater, Chelsea Market is a 20 year old culinary institution. The Market brings flavors, scents and textures from around the world to Manhattan. Home to over 51 different food vendors, Chelsea Market is a hub for locals and visitors to New York, a place to enjoy a wide variety of exceptional dishes, to shop for your next home cooked meal, and to gather after work with friends. Established in 1997. The Chelsea/ Meatpacking area has always been the locus of food in the city, beginning with the Algonquin Indians, who traded their game and crops on the banks of the Hudson River at this same spot. The trains of the High Line once served the wholesale butchers who lined the streets beneath the tracks and cooled their provisions with blocks of Hudson River ice, and the National Biscuit Company established its factory--now reclaimed as the Chelsea Market--here to take advantage of the butchers' lard in the nineteenth century. This long history--and the stripped-down brick architecture of the building gives the Market a unique character. Today, Chelsea Market is an iconic, internationally-recognized food hall that has maintained its commitment to being a market for locals featuring the goods and products of the community.
