Angler is easily one of my favorite restaurants in LA. The attention to the preparation of the fish is not unlike that of a great sushi restaurant. I went in thinking the elaborate techniques I’d heard about would obscure the purity of the flavors, but found the opposite to be the case. The veggies are out of this world. If I was in the mood for steak and was offered the beet, I’d take the beet. Insanely delicious. The caviar, while never cheap anywhere is a relative bargain. It’s served on a pancake with banana flavors and is one of the most delicious things I’ve had all year. The staff are very helpful and gladly will track down answers to any questions you have about the food. Others may complain about the prices (it ain’t cheap), but I can’t help feeling like this place is a bargain considering the quality and preparation of the products.

Angler Los Angeles is a high-end luxury seafood restaurant located in the sub-level in the Beverly Center (accessible by elevator or through a pull-up in the underground garage via La Cienaga Boulevard). The second branch from Angler San Francisco, Joshua Skenes (of Saison fame) focuses on sustainable and fresh seafood with a simple approach to cooking using wood smoking, open fire and embers. Raw bar is extensive and mollusks are incredibly fresh and well prepared. Signature dish includes the radicchio X.O (full head of radicchio with spicy sauce and garlic shallots and lightly grilled) as well as the banana pancake with caviar (ripe pancake with hot butter and topper with salty caviar - FYI, 1 oz is enough to split between two people for taste, and you can add an additional pancake for a small fee), hot caramel sundae and simple charred broccolini is also great. Atmosphere is reminiscent of a fishing lodge with heavy wood and dark interior. Service is friendly and professional. Reservations are recommended but not a must.

EDIT - This is the first time I have been back since the renovation/revamp of Angler and felt like I needed to update my review from my first visit. The menu has dramatically changed since the update and I’m not sold, only because my first experience was outstanding. It feels like they have tried to make the menu more accessible to reach a wider audience. I can understand this change and anyone coming for the first time will still have and outstanding meal with the best of service but for me, I’m missing a lot of what I loved about the OG concept. Yes I paid a very large sum of money to enjoy that first meal but it was filled with some of the best dishes of my life, all that are missing from the new menu. Dishes like the whole snow crab and pretty much all shellfish have been removed and in place more individual/non sharing plates. The snow crab on my first visit was more than $2000, and I remember the name he was given “Sheldon” before he was cooked and the pride and ownership staff took in handling this extremely impressive protein. New dishes like the Iberian Pork are outstanding. Very lightly and perfectly cooked pork, so soft and juicy with a slight hint of hoisin and green onion are a stand out. I liked the new Angler but I love the first. Cocktails and wine list are still extremely strong and I will always love the Japanese toilet! First Review - Damn. Well that was epic. Good was simple and executed to the very best of the ingredients. Service was incredible and the whole staff made us feel extremely welcome and helped with all our needs. We definitely went all in with food and wine and had a very large bill at the end and it was worth every god damn dollar. Caviar, tartare, crudo, oysters, radicchio, prawns, king crab, steak, potato. The potato was outstanding. Not to mention all the cocktails, champagne, wines and dessert wines and digestives. We went nuts. But you can definitely go there and have a more relaxed causal meal at the bar. Music was awesome! An insane meal and highly recommend when in LA.

Great place with great food (capon wings are awesome, fish too). The only negative thing is the seeweed rice. Why is it so fatty? A shame because the plate was beautiful. Please stop adding so much butter into rice. Nobody do that

I have heard of their San Francisco, one Michelin star, location for many years so I have been really looking forward to trying this Los Angeles location close to where I live for quite some time. It’s located on the ground floor of the Beverly Center, however the entrance to the restaurant is from the street. There will never be an issue with parking because the giant mall parking structure is directly above it with escalators connecting right to where the front door is, plus they also offer valet right out front. The interiors are really great, meats, and dried herbs, hanging from the open kitchen, which is a personal favorite of mine, being that you can watch your dishes being prepared. We started off with the Caesar Salad, and although it was small in size, it was great in flavor. I wish it had more cheese on top, but still it was very good. Next came my favorite dish of the night: the Hot Fried Collar. It was honestly delicious, the spice rub on top was terrific. It almost tasted like chicken, but it was still juicy and I highly recommend it. Shortly after that arrived, our order of Cheesy Bread arrived and it is not to be missed. Filled with gooey cheese and delicious flavor. Next came the Iberian Pork which was a bit small in portion size but it too was very good in flavor. We topped off the meal with their one dessert on the menu, which is Soft Serve Vanilla Ice Cream with caramel sauce on top. It was terrific and went quickly. Overall a really great meal and I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great date, dinner with friends, family, or business location.
