On April 24, 2024, I experienced a hit-and-run accident on the 91 Freeway during rush hour. It was a three-car chain reaction caused by a black truck that struck a Tesla, which then collided with my minivan. Unfortunately, the driver of the truck fled the scene, and I only learned about their departure through witness accounts after the fact. Having maintained a flawless driving record for 17 years, with no tickets or accidents, I was caught completely off guard by the situation. I wasn’t sure where to start—should I contact my insurance company, arrange for vehicle repairs, or see a doctor first? On top of that, I was dealing with a severe headache from the impact, which made it even harder to think clearly. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) arrived shortly after the accident and directed us to pull over safely. They facilitated the exchange of insurance and contact information and filed a police report. Once I returned home, I sought advice from friends about my next steps.
